Evaluation
This term in B Tec media level 3 we were given the topic of
advertisement. We had to fill out a logbook, create a presentation with an idea
and then at the end make an advert of our own with a product that already
exists. This product could be anything but within reason. We went soundcloud as
we felt we could represent it well and we were familiar with already. We had to
create a presentation on our idea and my part was to focus on the unique
selling points and our target audience. Once we had a broad idea of what we
wanted to do in the advert we then went through shots sorted out our
preproduction what we wanted to do in the advert it was time to shoot.
We didn’t have a target audience for our advert due to the fact anyone
is able to use soundcloud and enjoy music. We also used different scenarios in
the advert from someone at college, someone who skates and someone just
strolling through a record shop.
We couldn’t find any previous advertisements for soundcloud, which made
coming up with an idea at first. Instead we look at various different musical
platforms online for examples spotify, grooveshark and napster. These adverts
had various different adverts so we took elements from each to help us come up
with ours. These companies are also soundcloud main competitors as these are
also free music platforms.
The filming stage for our advert was the most enjoyable due to the fact
my group worked so well together. Instead of one person doing all the work and
everyone just agreeing to get it done. We all made our own parts so Jack did
his part, I did my skate part and Carlo did his record shop part and edited it.
It took us 2 shooting sessions to make sure we had everything we needed. We had
to refill one part due to the weather on the day of shooting as it was too
great and was far too gloomy. This meant we could have a bright and sunny day,
which gave the advert a better feel.
Our finished product was exactly how we wanted. Infact it was even
better as we added to it when we were shooting. There are a few things I was
really happy with when I saw the final product and that were the music sync.
The music was synced to various different parts of the adverts actions for
example when Jack left college the lyric was “we need more room in the
building” and the bass drop as he stepped which I felt add great effect to the
moment. Another key point, which I was most proud with, was the transitions as the
camera moved the shots would change and this ran smoothly.
Comparing our advert to a professional TV one we share more differences
then similarities. One of the similarities we do share however is that we have
a product and that we base the advert around it and incorporate things to do
with the advert. However, we didn’t use as much product placement as other adverts,
which I would like to change if we got the chance again. The quality wasn’t as
good as the resources we had were only minimal.
A comment one of my peers made was that “I love the shots used in this
advert, the visuals were great and everything flowed well with the music. You
could improve the length of each shot as some were to long”. I agree with these
comments to a certain extent as the visuals were very good and we worked really
hard on them. The music did flow really well aswell. The shots were short and
this was only because we were shooting an advert so we wanted everything to be
short and sweet and straight to the point. Also we were making an amateur
advert so we had only a certain amount of time.
In conclusion this task when really well and I felt like we advertised
soundcloud properly. Overall we worked really well and I would like to work
with these people again on another project.
