3. Trials of Transgression

Trials of Transgression created by Sturtevant in 2004

Description
A prosthetic anus is shown with various objects clenched between the cheeks and coming out of it. These things include toothpaste, coke cans and string. Each item having something different happen to it. They are either squeezed, stretched or pulled.

Observations
This piece made laugh and smile due to the fact it stood out so much compared to other pieces and it was so bold. I didn't understand what the piece meant or the representations of the anus. Still postioned camera shown through three different monitors. People find it funny and some are confused by it as they don't seem to be able to grasp what it means. It is humours to see their body language.

2. Nixon

"Nixon" created by Nam June Paik

Description
The piece depicts a speech by Nixon talking about himself on 2 monitors. One of the monitors has a clear image of him and the other monitor shows him distorted by a round circle on both screens. Both monitors have these circular objects on them. The monitors swap the distortion.

Observations
The video installation makes me laugh and i find it humours as its mocking him. There are two sides to him. I understood the installation and the meaning of it. There are two monitors playing the video at the same time. People stand to hear what he has to say then recognise the distortion.

1. Hannons Mask

Hannons Mask created by Rebecca Horn in 1973.

Description
The video depicts a women wearing a mask of feathers of which she moves her head around and then commences to rub it on a mans face in a seductive manor.

Observations
It makes me feel uneasy as the way in which she moves her head seems unhuman and animalistic. The only thing i am unsure of about this video is the meaning behind it. It isnt clearly specified. It is shot continuos with no cuts. People don't really pay attention to the installation and dismiss it as strange.
